Basic Info

Xavier Prats Monné

Xavier Prats Monné is Director for Employment Policy, Lisbon Strategy and International Affairs at the European Commission’s Directorate General for Employment, Social Policy and Equal Opportunities.

He was previously Director for European Social Fund (ESF) coordination, and was responsible for the establishment and negotiation of the European Globalisation Adjustment Fund. He also served as deputy chief of staff of the European Commission Vice-president for foreign affairs.
Xavier acknowledges that successful integration of immigrants into their new societies requires a holistic approach which encompasses access to the labour market, education and language skills, housing and urban issues, health and social services, and access to a cultural environment, and civic and political rights.

However, his office sets special focus on integration into the labour market, because this is a key component of integration and is still an area in which much progress is needed, especially when women are concerned.

Xavier holds degrees in Social Sciences from the University of Madrid, in Development Economics from the Centre International des Hautes Etudes Agronomiques Mediteranneennes (International Centre for Advanced Méditérranéan Agronomic Studies), and in European Public Administration from the College of Europe, Bruges.
