Sangeeta Subramanian

Sangeeta Subramanian has over 12 years of community and organisational development, project management, research and writing, professional experience in the not-for-profit sector in Canada.

This encompasses advocacy, capacity building, policy development, partnership development, programme design and coordination, mentoring and public speaking. She has an interest in working on issues around access and equity towards sustainable social change for under-represented groups like South Asian women, youth and immigrants.

Sangeeta has held Project Manager and Coordinator roles with the Maytree Foundation, South Asian Women’s Centre and Ontario Council of Agencies Serving Immigrants (OCASI). She has also consulted internationally with agencies such as the Ford Foundation, Population Council, United Nations Population Fund and the International Council for Management of Population Programs. She is currently the Project Leader, National Mentoring at Maytree.

Maytree is a private Canadian charitable foundation established in 1982, committed to reducing poverty and inequality in Canada and to building strong civic communities. Maytree seeks to accomplish its objectives by identifying, supporting and funding ideas, leaders and leading organisations that have the capacity to make change and advance the common good.

Sangeeta also has over 8 years of volunteer experience. She has served on prior boards as Vice President for OCASI (2000-2002), Treasurer and President for Council of Agencies Serving South Asians and Board Member for Multilingual Community Interpreter Services (2001-2002). Since 2005 she has been on the board of the Children’s Aid Society of Toronto.

Sangeeta holds a Bachelor of Arts Degree from the University of Madras, India, and a Post Graduate Degree/Diploma in Management from the Indian Institute of Management. Additionally, she has a Certificate in Non-profit Management and Leadership from the Schulich School of Business, York University.
