Alwiye Xuseyn

Alwiye Xuseyn, a native of Tanzania living in Ireland for the past 11 years, has a back ground in health work and finance. Ms Xuseyn is one of the founders of AkiDwA, migrant women’s network in Ireland, and is currently the Health Officer for the organisation’s Majira sexual and reproductive health project. One of Majira’s aims was peer training of migrant women. As a consultant Ms Xuseyn has delivered training to medical practitioners and midwifery students on FGM. Ms Xuseyn is a strong advocate for the prohibition of FGM in Ireland and worldwide. Ms Xuseyn holds a diploma in Nursing and Midwifery from University of Muhimbili Medical Centre, Tanzania; a higher diploma in Critical Nursing from University College Dublin and currently working on development studies at Kimmage DSC. Board appointments include Ireland’s National Steering committee against FGM, EAPN Ireland and the European Network of Migrant Women.
